Using Different Rotary Die Cutting Processes for Customizable Work

Rotary die cutting is a fabrication process that uses specialized machines to form and convert stock materials. Engineers and manufacturers opt for the best die cutting CA has because these systems can form, shear, and cut custom designs and shapes. This manufacturing process is widely known to be highly versatile and customizable, making it ideal for a wide range of materials. Rotary die cutting can process plastic, metal, paper, composites, wood, and neoprene.

Rotary Die Cutting

Rotary die cutting is a versatile fabrication process that uses custom dies and specialized machinery to convert materials. The process implements different cutting operations to make customization possible. These cutting operations include:

Kiss Cutting

Adhesive lined materials are easily made with kiss cutting. During this process, custom dies are used to cut through the top layer of material without cutting through the backing layer. When finished, stock materials are not fully separated from their backing, but backings can be easily removed. Think of a sticker as an example of kiss cutting.

Scoring

This process leaves an impression, a partial cut, or an indent. In most instances, scoring only cuts through up to 50% of the material. It is important to keep in mind that this reduces thickness at stress points. Scoring allows for square profile folds.

Creasing

This manufacturing process is similar to scoring, but it should not be used interchangeably. Creasing is used to shape materials that need an inward bending bulge between parallel stress points. When two stress points are present, parts have increased overall flexibility at the crease, which reduces stress on materials when folded.
