Die cutting is a highly versatile and practical forming process used by a wide range of industries. Different types of die cutting allow for a wide range of forming applications besides cutting. The most common types of die cutting include rotary, laser, and flatbed. Each forming method is different, so it is important to recognize that custom die cutting is highly unique to individual applications. Die cutting can do many different things, which include:

Blanking - using a die cutter to slice materials and make them completely flat.

Broaching – this cutting method utilizes multiple rows of cutting teeth that come together at once to cut through thicker materials.

Creasing – this die cutting method folds materials along fold-lines, which increases flexibility.

Drawing – for special cases, dies are fitted with a marker instead of a blade so that the die draws an image.

Engraving – die cutting machines can easily etch designs, shapes, and words directly onto cork, wood, and foam materials.

Forming – die cutting machines are used to transform materials into round, cylindrical shapes.

Kiss-Cutting – this type of cutting does not cut completely through a material, making it easy to remove backing materials.

Perforating – this type of die cutting makes holes in a material using pressurized force (coining/piercing).

The above list is just a portion of what custom die cutting can produce. For specialized products, die cutters mix-and-match production methods to create parts and products.
